Inside The Gold-Coated Home of Italy’s Most Feared Casamonica Mafia

Police photographs in Italy show the gaudy home of a member of a feared mafia crime family complete with pink marble and gold-painted furniture.

Military cops arrested 31 members of the Casamonica gang in a series of raids across the country on Tuesday.

Pictures released by the military police – known as the carabinieri – show officers searching a mansion decorated in garish gold complete with a tacky-looking porcelain leopard statue.

Around 250 officers took part in the huge operation which included the arrest of Giuseppe Casamonica – one of the alleged bosses of the syndicate, local media reports.

The alleged gangsters were arrested in stings in Rome and in southern Italy on charges including drug trafficking, extortion and loan sharking.

As well as the raids in Rome, properties were busted in the towns of Reggio Calabria and Cosenza in the south of the country close to Sicily.

Cops found $60,000 in cash, bank accounts, luxury watches and cars.

Along with Casamonica, who was recently released from prison after serving 10 years, former professional boxer Domenico Spada was also arrested, reports The Local.

Spada, who fought over 40 pro fights at middleweight, had his gym in Rome seized and shut down.

Prosecutor Michele Prestipino said: “They didn’t need to use violence, the Casamonica name was enough.”

The gang’s crimes include racketeering and have been carried out with “mafia character.”

Cops have issued warrants for six alleged mobsters who are still believed to be on the run.

In a raid on the Casamonica crew in 2010, police seized $11.5 million worth of assets including cars, properties and land.
