SUV Used in Teen’s Kidnapping Is Discovered

(Newser)

The SUV used to kidnap a 13-year-old from outside her home in Lumberton, NC, early Monday has been found, though with no sign of Hania Noelia Aguilar or her abductor. The 2002 Ford Expedition was discovered shortly after 8am Thursday in Lumberton, per WRAL. Police say it was on the side of a road near woods. WTVD reports Hania herself had started up the SUV registered to her aunt around 7am Monday as she prepared to go to school. Witnesses say a man wearing a yellow bandana over his face then forced the teenager inside the vehicle before driving off. The FBI is offering a $15,000 reward for information.

Authorities on Wednesday released surveillance footage showing the SUV traveling near Hania’s home in Rosewood mobile park minutes after the kidnapping, and they say there’s no reason to think Hania knew her abductor, reports WTVD. At a prayer vigil Wednesday, Hania’s mother spoke directly to the man. “I don’t know who you are, but I know you have a heart,” she said, per WRAL, urging her daughter’s safe return. The teen is described as 5 feet, 126 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt decorated with flowers. (Read more Amber Alert stories.)
