A woman who was streaming her birthday celebration on Facebook Live ended up streaming something much worse: an alleged sexual assault. She was at Atlanta’s Opera nightclub early Sunday morning when, she told police, a man put drugs in her drink and then assaulted her on the dance floor. In the video, which multiple people saw on Facebook, she can be heard screaming, “No, stop!” and calling for help. Police announced this week they had identified and contacted the man seen in the video and that the investigation is ongoing, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
An officer tells the AJC the video “appears to show a woman being sexually assaulted in a local nightclub,” and that people who saw it contacted the department; one caller said the woman in the video was groped and possibly even raped. The woman had already been streaming the celebration at the time and simply continued streaming during the alleged crime. The video has since been removed, but the woman reportedly posted a later video saying she was OK. WSB-TV reports people were rallying at the nightclub Wednesday to protest the fact that the man allegedly involved has not been arrested. (Suspect may have accidentally broadcast video of fatal beating.)
