A Chicago Lawn man is facing multiple felonies after he turned over his car to a Near North steakhouse’s valet attendant while a defaced handgun sat on the floorboard, prosecutors said.

Police were called after a valet worker allegedly spotted the loaded nine-millimeter as he prepared to park 28-year-old Darrell Patrick’s Chevy Malibu around 10 p.m. Sunday at Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse, 1028 North Rush.

Officers recovered the handgun and reviewed surveillance video that showed Patrick parking the car, according to a police report. Patrick was detained as he walked out of the landmark restaurant with his girlfriend.

“It’s all on me,” Patrick allegedly told police, “[My girlfriend] has nothing to do with all that.”

Prosecutors said the gun’s serial number was defaced and police found bags of suspected crack and suspected heroin in the driver’s door panel.

Patrick later told officers that he found the gun, but he could not remember where, and that he carries it for protection, police said. As for the drugs, “I’m taking the rap for all of it,” he allegedly told officers.

In court on Monday, an assistant state’s attorney said Patrick served two years for narcotics in 2012 and three years for burglary in 2013. He is now charged with Class X felony armed habitual criminal; felony possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number; and two counts of possessing a controlled substance.

Judge Arthur Willis set bail at $20,000. Willis ordered Patrick to go onto electronic monitoring if he is able to post the required 10% deposit bond.
