A Lakeview woman was attacked and robbed by an assailant who tried to sexually assault her in the stairwell of her lakefront apartment building on Saturday, police said. Charges have been filed.
Residents of a high-rise building on the 3400 block of North Lake Shore Drive called police around 11 a.m. after hearing a woman scream that she was being beaten and that a man was going to shoot her.
The victim told officers that she was walking down the hallway on her floor when 41-year-old Alberto Feliciano blocked her path and struck her in the head with a heavy recycling bin, police said. He allegedly pulled the woman backward toward a stairwell as she tried to fight her way free. Police said Feliciano continued the attack until witnesses intervened and the woman escaped.
Feliciano took the woman’s purse and phone, then fled to the building lobby where arriving police officers detained him on suspicion that he was involved in the incident. The victim subsequently identified him as the attacker and police took Feliciano into custody.
Feliciano lists a home address on the 3400 block of North Lake Shore Drive, but it is not known if he lives in the same building where the attack reportedly occurred. He is due back in court on Sept. 26.
