Police responded to at least three robberies in the Lincoln Park neighborhood on Friday evening. The victims include a DePaul University student and a man who was robbed at gunpoint outside the North-Clybourn Red Line station. Police do not believe the crimes are connected. Here are the details:
Just before 8 p.m., a man reported that two offenders robbed him at gunpoint outside the North-Clybourn Red Line station. The men reportedly took $400 from the victim and ran from the scene.
Cops assigned to monitor the 18th Police District’s camera system sent officers to the station’s southbound platform after spotting two men who matched the offenders’ descriptions. Charges are pending.
A Friday evening coffee shop rendezvous ended with a 19-year-old man being robbed at knifepoint near DePaul University at 7:30 p.m. The victim is a student at the school, according to a university source.
Police said the victim and the offender met earlier in the week at a local coffee shop and they decided to meet again at the same spot yesterday evening. The two men left the coffee shop and were walking on the 2300 block of North Sheffield when the offender pulled a knife and robbed the student of his cash, police said. The victim was not injured.
The robber fled to an older dark-colored sedan and drove away. Police said he is a Hispanic man with a medium complexion who’s between 18 and 21 years old, 5’8” tall, 150 pounds with short black hair.
A 31-year-old clerk said he tried to stop two men and a woman as they walked out with the smokes around 10:30 p.m. The three got away after having a “tussle” with the clerk, according to a police spokesperson.
The three offenders, last seen heading northbound on Clybourn, were described as:
- Male, Hispanic, short hair, tattoos on his neck, 5’1” tall, 170 pounds, wearing a yellow skull cap, blue jacket, and multicolored North Face gym shoes
- Female, Hispanic, long black hair, 5-feet tall, 185 pounds, wearing a red jacket and a blue shirt
- Male, black, 6’3” tall, 210 pounds, black hair, black baseball cap, black jacket, black jeans.
