A 19-year-old man is dead after being stabbed in Rogers Park on Saturday afternoon. The man was mortally wounded less than a block from where a 47-year-old man would be fatally shot less than 12 hours later. Police have not publicly connected the two murders. No one is in custody for either slaying.

A witness flagged down patrol officers on the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terrace at 3:49 p.m. Saturday to report that man had been wounded. Police on the scene found Lance Strickland bleeding outside of a residence and immediately radioed for an ambulance.

Strickland was later pronounced dead of a stab wound to his chest at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Chicago police.

An unknown offender stabbed Strickland on the second floor of a residential building after a verbal argument escalated, according to a CPD spokesperson.
