Fugitive Marine Deserter Found at Mom’s Home

The Marine deserter recently placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for allegedly murdering his mother’s boyfriend was captured Wednesday morning. Michael Alexander Brown, 22, was taken into custody at his mother’s Roanoke, Virginia-area home—the same place the murder is alleged to have taken place, CNN reports. Brown deserted his post at North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune last month and had been on the run since the Nov. 9 fatal shooting of Rodney Brown, 54, whose body was found by Brown’s mother. A motive for the murder is not yet clear.

Investigators have not commented on where Brown has been during the three-state manhunt that ensued or when he returned to his mother’s home, but they say they got information that “caused them to refocus” on the home, per CNN. No one else was there when Brown was arrested, and CBS News reports he was taken into custody without incident. Authorities told reporters he was in “fine” condition when found. It’s not clear when the first court appearance for Brown, who was being booked into county jail, will occur. (Read more murder stories.)
